Description:
The Cow House is a delightful property, perfect for a romantic getaway. Situated off the main cobbled street which leads to the 199 steps to the Abbey, in the traditional old town of Whitby, and a stone’s throw from the seafront and harbour. The owners have paid great attention to detail in renovating this property to a very high standard, including cosy underfloor heating, great for those winter breaks creating a perfect holiday home for a couple all year round. Retaining many original features, such as beamed ceilings and a traditional Aga stove, this detached cottage was originally the cow shed where livestock was brought into the centre of the town ready for the market. The vintage style bathroom features a Burlington high cistern toilet, whilst the bedroom has a dressing table, vintage wooden window shutters and cast iron radiators. It lies in a quiet courtyard, set back from the main street and central to all local amenities.
Whitby is popular all year round with several festivals such as the annual Folk Week, Regatta and the famous Goth Weekends held in April and October. The coastline is spectacular and forms part of the Cleveland Way walk that passes through Whitby and down to its final destination in Filey, all 109 miles. Great for those who love the great outdoors and rambling.
The courtyard leads out to an array of shops and independent cafés as well as some good traditional pubs and wine bars. Everything is within walking distance.
Just along the coastline there is a choice of stunning beaches, some of them award-winning including Sandsend which you can walk to from Whitby’s main beach at low tide. One of the draws to Whitby is its interesting history, being the home of Dracula who arrived by ship on Tate Hill beach according to Bram Stoker’s novel. Captain Cook sailed from Whitby on his voyages to discover Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii, you can visit the museum or the replica of his ship, the Endeavour, in the harbour which houses an exhibition and restaurant. Over the centuries Whitby has been a flourishing fishing town, you can sample some of the locally caught fish from many of the independent fishmongers.
If you are looking for the perfect location to create memories with a special someone, then look no further, you won’t be disappointed. Shop 200 yards, pub and restaurant 50 yards.
